Rio Grande Valley Ranch RV Resort — Canutillo, TX
We stayed at Rio Grande Valley Ranch RV Resort in Canutillo in February 2024, just northwest of El Paso. It was still a fairly new RV park at the time, and one of the things that made it different was that it really was part of a working ranch. Cattle, horses, corrals and ranch activity were right there alongside the RV sites.
We had originally planned to stay through Super Bowl weekend. The weather was getting colder, but the real reason we left early was the park’s electrical system. They were still operating with an older transformer and told us a replacement wasn’t expected until the following week. This was before Harriet’s electrical upgrade, and we weren’t comfortable depending on questionable shore power as the temperatures dropped.
So on February 8 we packed up and moved on to Fort Davis, where we ended up watching the Super Bowl a few days later.
The ranch setting is still what makes this stop memorable. There aren’t many RV parks where you can walk outside and find a corral full of cattle nearby, and that made an otherwise practical El Paso-area stop feel quite a bit different.
