Gristmill — Gruene, TX

At the Gristmill with Gail and Jeannie, February 2025.

We’ve eaten at the Gristmill in Gruene more than once, and it’s become one of those places we’re always happy to return to. On this visit in February 2025, we were there with Gail and Jeannie.

The setting is a big part of what keeps drawing us back. The restaurant sits in the remains of Gruene’s original cotton gin, with old stone, wood, trees, and views toward the Guadalupe River giving it a character you don’t get from a typical restaurant.

The Gristmill feels very much like Gruene itself — relaxed, historic, and a little different from anywhere else. It’s a place we’ve enjoyed enough to come back to, and probably will again.

We’ve also written about our visits to Gruene Hall.

Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar in Historic Gruene
Located beneath Gruene’s landmark water tower, in the ruins of an 1878 cotton gin, overlooking the Guadalupe River, the Historic Gristmill has been considered one of the most unique dining spots in Texas for nearly half a century.
