Big Bend Saddlery
Do you like the smell of leather? Have I got the place for you.
Anytime we're in the Fort Davis/Alpine area, we make a stop at Big Bend Saddlery.
The first time we went there, my oldest brother was the one who showed me the store. What I like about the place is that it reminds me of being a kid and walking into an old farm or ranch store.
They still hand-make saddles there, but saddles are only part of it. They have clothing, blankets, wallets, phone holders, knives with handmade sheaths, and all kinds of other western gear and leather goods.
We don't always buy something when we stop, but we always spend some time there. Up front, they have a couple of couches near the fireplace where you can sit for a while and look out over the store.
Lisa has bought a couple sets of earrings there over the years, and somehow I even managed to come home with a monocular once.
It’s one of those places we don’t really need an excuse to visit. If we’re anywhere near Alpine, we usually find our way back.
