On our way home in April 2024, Lisa and I decided to add an extra day to our stay at Air Capital RV Park and go see Old Cowtown Museum. What surprised us most was that we had been traveling through Wichita for years and somehow never knew it was there.

Cowtown recreates Wichita during the late 1860s and 1870s, with **54 historic and reconstructed buildings spread across more than 20 acres**. Twenty-seven of the buildings are original structures that were moved to the museum grounds and preserved rather than demolished. The collection includes homes, businesses, workshops, farm equipment and thousands of period artifacts.

We ended up really enjoying the place. It was also a good reminder that simply passing through somewhere over and over doesn’t mean you actually know what is there. Sometimes you have to slow down, look around, and give yourself an extra day or you’ll drive right past some of the most interesting things you’ll ever find.
