We visited Memphis’ Victorian Village in May 2024, the stretch of Adams Avenue once known as “Millionaire’s Row.” During the mid-to-late 1800s, wealthy Memphis families built a series of elaborate homes here, many tied to the city’s cotton, riverboat, and business fortunes. Several of the surviving houses have been preserved and remain part of the neighborhood today.

The house in our photo is the **Woodruff-Fontaine House**, built in 1871 and later home to both the Woodruff and Fontaine families. Seeing these homes in person gives a much better sense of how different this part of Memphis must have looked during the city’s Victorian era.
