We stayed at Fort Robinson State Park in October 2024, and it turned out to be a really pleasant place to spend a few days with the RV — even if the weather was starting to remind us that winter wasn’t far away. The park has plenty of room, beautiful Pine Ridge scenery, and enough history around it that it feels like more than just a campground stop. Nebraska Game and Parks describes Fort Robinson as a 22,000-acre park with historic buildings, scenic camping, and bison and longhorn herds.

Fort Robinson also has a deep and sometimes difficult history. Crazy Horse surrendered here on May 6, 1877, when he brought his band of 889 people into Camp Robinson. He was killed at the post later that year, on September 5, while resisting imprisonment.

Between the setting, the RV stay, and the history tied to the place, Fort Robinson ended up being one of those stops we were glad we gave more time than we originally expected.
